La Cantina di Enza, located in the heart of Irpinia in Montemarano, is a hidden jewel in the hills of the province of Avellino. Founded in 2009, this small artisan company is the fruit of the passion and dedication of Enza Saldutti, who transformed his family legacy into a wine-growing reality of excellence. The cellar extends over approximately 7 hectares of land, where native vines such as ‘Aglianico.

The vineyards are cared for with traditional and environmentally friendly methods, without the use of invasive techniques. Enza, who is an agronomist,  does not make use of external oenological consultancy, preferring to rely on the knowledge handed down from generation to generation. This authentic and genuine approach is reflected in the wines produced, which manage to capture the essence of the Irpinia terroir and convey unique emotions to those who taste them.

The wine that struck me a lot, in addition to his Taurasi, is the “Dall’ Uva” Aglianico DOC. This red wine, produced from Aglianico grapes harvested in the first ten days of October, undergoes a long maceration on the skins for 20 days, followed by aging for 12/18 months in steel barrels and another 6 months in the bottle. The result is a wine with a strong and complex character, which tells the story and tradition of the Irpinia area.

If you are in Irpinia, a visit to  Enza’s winery is an unmissable experience. You will be able to discover the secrets of traditional viticulture (I’m keen not to use the word “natural”…), taste extraordinary wines, and immerse yourself in the beauty of an uncontaminated landscape. The Enza Cellar is a perfect example of how passion and respect for the land can give life to the highest quality products
